Are beetle killed trees in Colorado a good choice for building logs in a cabin?
Does anybody know how to get good trees and what is the cost?

Skip used to say the best logs are the ones you have. What kinds of logs are appropraite is covered in-depth in the class. Beetle kill in most cases is fine to use, but you'll want to take the class before you make any decisions.

I was thinking about getting a small lot in the CO mountains, which of course requires me to go out and purchase logs. I am planning on taking the Vegas course, but I was just wondering if anybody had used some bettle kill pines for building and most importantly how much it cost to buy the logs right now with the alleged high availability according to the Denver Post article.

Don't rush. There's plenty of time to get what you want and need after the class. Beetle kill logs are not going away. Take the class and you won't be disappointed. Like getting dentures while you have young healthy teeth. <smile>

I don't even own a piece of land yet. I was hoping to buy the land and logs in the Spring and build then. I was just hoping to find out a going price if possible to see what kind of cost it would be for the logs. I look forward to the Vegas class.

We used beetle killed lodgepole for our cabin. No issues. As far as the cost goes. it will vary and a price today will give you no indication of a price next summer. Use a budget # of $150 per log. That should get you 12- 24 inch logs delivered. The market around here is dependant on the pellet market. A hard winter and the pellet plants will be buying all they can get, a light winter and they may not even be buying. This year the guys in North Park are selling in Montrose. That is a long haul
