Well, just got done fixin' her all up, and now I'm lookin' to sell her. Why? Because I got my eye on a dump truck that's just callin' my name, and I just can't afford to have them both. Not a steal, but certainly not a bad deal either. Take a look. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bfs/1772479149.html

Rods Dump Truck....
You know there are several ways to rig a boom on a dump truck. It can either be run using the dump ram for lift or a winch for lift. You'd have to have level access to all four sides of your building.
Rod's Crane-
Hey Rod!
Listing looks awesome. You've really got me thinking about it! If I rent a Lull for one month here, I'm spending $1500 that'll I'll never see again...
Lacrosse is building next year... he could use it too....
Does it reach high enough to do a 32x32 with 9' basement and 6/12 pitch roof?
How do I sell my wife on buying a crane truck...
google maps has me 282 miles away from you in Warminster, Pa...
hmmmmmmm.

Fletch's awesome rental rates
out here rates are about 3-4k/month, and if you don't have means to pull it, hiring that is about $100/hr. My nearest rental place is at least 2 hrs down the road, which means 4 hrs to pick up and to drop off, or 800 bucks just for transport, then the 3k for rental. I bought one for a bit more than twice that (inc. new tires and delivery), so I could take a huge loss on it, and come out even. I suspect that I'll be able to sell it for more than I bought it for. Otherwise, I could rent it 3 times and pay for it.
If you can swing it, having equipment is generally better than renting it.

rental
I'd love to own, but if it can't put my RP on top of a... well let'see: 9'basment, +19' wall height. 32x32 w/ 6/12 is 16/2=8' so 19+9+8=36' or so RP that may be a RIGHTEOUS (choir singing in harmony lol!) RP than I might just get the 6,000 # 44'lift Lull one month for 1500. guess i have a week or so to decide...
ok, time to post pix of todays MASSIVE progess :)

Is your basement above ground or below? I think you meant 19' walls plus 8' for a total of 27'. Wait, unless you are built into a hill. Duh! Kids been out of school for a week. <smile>
Yea, my crane is definitely
Yea, my crane is definitely not a ridge pole lifting crane. Steve W's can get the job done, but he's just getting started, so it's not for sale.
Got me thinking though. I went to a metals salvage yard this past weekend (friggen amazing place, but that's another story) and I saw some metal block and tackle, and all kinds of lifting equipment. (amongst many, many other things) I may just go back there this weekend and get a shackle and block to make my crane a double line.

A crane truck has to be one of the best things I've ever bought ,I got an old one for under a thousand dollars, not only can you lift and move logs, you can use it for a lift to work under vehicles, moved big rocks ,lifted a big metal gate I use it all the time
Renting LULL
ok, so the 1500 deal is for a 6-42 (6000# , 42' lift capacity) they're booked for 2 weeks with all of them.
He'll give me a Skytrack that's 8,000 #, 44' lift for 1700/mo. I think I'll take it. With some 40' logs that are 2' tops (a few of them) and just cut, they're heavy and maybe 3500 pounds.
Extra capacity can't hurt.
I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get it at ALL b/c (first place) said they need a $1,000,000 insurance cover sheet, commercial, and I was trying with no luck to find a contractor who'd do a rent for me. This place in Canandaigua, NY told me he could accept my home-owners insurance; & my agent is cool with it. $75 dollar transport fee each way.
I'm gonna need LIFTING STRAPS ASAP !
Anyone have a source I can get them from?
Bought mine here:

No takers, eh? Looks like
No takers, eh? Looks like Bessy the Boom Truck is gonna be staying in the family.
I guess whether it reaches
I guess whether it reaches high enough depends on how many floors you're planning. The boom crane is what is known as a sign crane, and was told it's load limit is around 1,300 pounds, (probably determined by the 1/4" load line. 6,800 lbs break strength, 20% working limit = 1,360 lbs) but it does look like it can be set up for a block and doubled line which would double the load limit. (though I'd probably think about not using it at full extension that way) Without a manual, I'm cautious to work on the conservative side of things. Also, I'm not even sure if the photo shows it at full extension. Again, without a manual, I have no idea if there is a stop in the extension, and I didn't want to find out the hard way. :-)
Selling it to the wife can be relatively easy. Take care of it, and you should be able to sell it for what you paid. Plus it does double duty, as you can fetch bigger items your self, rather than paying to have them delivered. All said and done, you should end up with more money in your pocket when you're done with it.
Come on by and take a look!
