new to this web site.not sure how all this works.no computer guy here.i have always wanted a log home,and its time.I think i found a way to do it where i can afford it.no stranger to carpentry etc.i am very curious about all aspects of this butt and pass method.as far as preparing the logs,to how they are fastened to eachother.i have a design with no basement not a walk out.more ranch style with a loft of course and field stone fireplace.i have read and seen kit forms all it did was confuse me what was best.i see where this method will work in value and ease of construction.just need to learn more on the details of construction to make it lasting and avoid mistakes during the construction.i know they could be major if not properly informed.

If you are planning to build your own log home, then you would be best to take the class. I know members say it over & over, but for the $$ the class costs, & the amount of money you'll save compared to not buying a kit after, it'll be so much better in the long run.
It's generally not recommended that people try & build butt & pass without all the info, because that could lead to costly & possibly dangerous mistakes.
From starting the driveway to where the picture is at now to the left, has been 9 months. Great class.
merlin...thanks for the advise..i just need to check the site here and get the info for the classes..but i do have the property and just in the beginning stages of finding the logs to cut,,up here pine trees are very plentyful.just need to locate a good grove that needs clearing.been told that the dept natural resourses can help.im not getting any younger! so its time ..thanks for the advise and time to answer back,,happy building !.nice place youll have to enjoy once moved in ...!

The class also teaches you all about what logs are best to use and the best ways to obtain them.
I took the class in October last year and have already saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars
on tips and tricks in obtaining material and tools.
There is a June class, but I think that might be the last one until fall... so if you are serious, I would check
more into the class. It is well wrth it!
