What to expect at a class at Wallace Falls Lodge
Sat, 2008-10-18 17:40 — AdminWhat to expect at a class held at the Wallace Falls Lodge location:
- Laptop computers and recording devices of any kind (ie, tape recorders) are not permitted in class. Your instructor(s) will explain the reasons for this during the class.
- Coffee, tea, candy and Skip’s famous home-made (?) cookies will be provided continuously throughout the day.
- A free lunch will be provided on both days of your class, as well as dinner on the second day of class. However, please note that our meals are fairly basic (burgers, sandwiches, pasta, etc) and do not usually include vegetarian or vegan options. Logistics for a class at Skip's ranch
Sat, 2008-10-18 17:37 — AdminIf you have just made a payment, then here is information that you will want to know about attending the class.
1) You will need to fax in an application for membership in our Association. You can find the application, and our fax number, at http://www.loghomeinfo.com/whatnext.htm
Please do not fax in your application before making a payment.
We will need one application per person attending. Please fill out the application completely and write as legibly as possible (our staff appreciates that).
2) We have information about local hotels and motels. There's a list of recommendation, and it includes contact information, prices, and lets you know which places give our members a discount.
3) Be sure to print off a copy of the driving directions, and bring them with you when you come to attend the class. We cannot give you the physical address, but these driving directions are very detailed and will get you right to our parking lot.
4) We have prepared an article that will help you know what to expect at the class. It includes a list of what to bring, and an explanation of what not to bring.
5) We are a private Association. Some people are not eligible for membership, please be sure you are not on the list.
6) Our credit card processor should send you an email confirmation of your payment soon after you place your order. We do not normally send out any other confirmation or reminder emails before the class.
Airfare information (booking your flight)
Sun, 2007-07-15 00:37 — AdminMost of our students fly in from around the country (and the world) and are looking for the best deals on airfares. Here's a quick guide for getting the best rates on travel to our class.
You will want to fly into the Seattle-Tacoma International airport (Seatac).
Seatac Rental Cars
Sun, 2007-07-15 00:33 — AdminAt the Seatac airport there are five rental car companies that have a desk at the airport and on-location cars. The next four offer on-site counter but you take a bus to their lot to retrieve your car. And there are a few more near the airport that do not have a desk at the airport (but will probably have the best rate).
Camping & staying with other students
Sun, 2007-07-15 00:30 — AdminAll students are welcome to camp in our lower parking lot during the class. There is a nice field area reserved for this purpose, however there are no facilities. During most of the year the weather in this area is mild and suitable for camping (be sure and check the weather report). You should of course be prepared for rain since we are very close to Seattle.
Local hotels, motels and Bed & Breakfasts
Sun, 2007-07-15 00:29 — AdminHotels, Motels and Bed & Breakfasts
- Recommended B&B: Wallace Falls Lodge Would you like to stay at a REAL log home bed & breakfast, built and owned by members of the Log Home Builders Association? We recommend the Wallace Falls Lodge in Goldbar, Washington. Rooms for the class may be book via our website store.
- Recommended B&B: Gaylord House B&B If you would be interested in staying at a local bed and breakfast, we can wholeheartedly recommend Gaylord House. You can read a review of Gaylord House B&B by one of our members. Contact information is in the review, and also in our list of local bed & breakfasts below. If you call the Gaylord House, ask for the Log Home Builders Association special -- three nights for the price of two. Fly in Friday night and stay until Monday but only pay for two nights.
- Recommended HOTEL: The Best Western in Monroe, Washington, is very close to our ranch (about 5 miles away). It is also convenient to "downtown" Monroe with lots of shopping centers, food, etc. Here is their contact information:

What to expect at the class (and things you should know)
Sat, 2007-07-14 23:57 — AdminSome notes on what to expect at our class. Some of these apply specifically to classes at our ranch near Seattle, but many of these points apply to any class we offer at any location.
If you have any questions please e-mail us at info@loghomebuilders.org or you can reach an instructor at 360-794-4469.
1. Skip’s house is often photographed for newspapers, magazines, books, TV, etc. Therefore, the carpet must be kept clean at all times. This means that shoes must be left at the door. Of course, you can bring slippers if you want to do so.
2. Coffee, tea, candy, and Skip’s famous home-made (?) cookies will be provided continuously throughout the day.
3. You should bring a large lunch, because it is not practical to leave during the seminar.
4. Other things to bring: A large notebook, because you will take many notes and make many drawings. An umbrella because we might be out in the rain for short periods of time. A flashlight because it might be dark when you walk out to your car after the class – especially if you stay late to talk, ask questions, hang out, drink a few pots of coffee, etc.
5. Also, be sure to bring any medicine you might need.
