Eric,
I wish I would have checked out the forum first--I have already booked my room at the Lodge, my flight AND a rental car. If you haven’t rented a car yet, please feel free to ride with me--anyone else too. I arrive at 11:00 am from Salt Lake City on flight 4800.
John
John:
I have not rented a car yet and will hold off until I get my flights squared away. I can split the cost with you on the car and if we another even better. A preliminary check on flights shows that I would be getting in about the same time.
I will keep you posted as I plan on buying flights this week.
Eric
Whoa--sorry about not checking this thread until now--so busy here at work! *Can't wait to get away to WA!!
I live here in Mid Missouri. I rented a compact car but I can upgrade, I'm sure, whenever we figure out how many folks want to ride together.
(My flight info has changed--see later post...)
Can't wait to get there and meet you all and see the lodge and everything!!! WOW--do I need a break!!
hey everyone I just signed up my self and was thinking on a renta car...till i found this thred..just an idea but mabey we all meet somewhere at the airport or renta car place?? i know everyone is flying in at diff. times but if we keep out times posted we might be able to work something out!!?? I'll be flying from Sacramento CA.. dont have any times yet..but will post a.s.a.p
Just looking at some well known, and some not so well
known world events, then thinking about the upcoming
class. Just want to say congrats to all who are about to
take the class. You are about to have your life changed
in a very dramatic way. Of course, the extent of the
change is up to you. After the class, take daily notes.
Make a journal. Funnel your new found excitement to
daily forward progress. Hopefully your spouse will be in
the class with you. You really won't need to double-up
on the knowledge, but double-up on the support of
each other and your goal. Be so very sure to make
some progress in some way every day. Did you order
your plans? Did you learn how to build cabinets (it was
a four year program when I was young, now it takes
one day to watch the one hour tape, do some review,
take notes, and test youself). Did you look for property?
Make an offer? Get creative with a seller? Do something
every day that will count as forward progress.
This class will help you in so many ways. Unless you
find a very lenient lender, you won't get an owner-
builder loan. A friend of mine has a BA in construction,
has been a builder for at least 28 years, and let his
licence go brecause the bond was just getting too
expensive. The banks wouldn't give him a loan!! This is
the only place I have ever seen where you won't even
need a lender! Tell the banks to keep their money and
take a hike! If you do manage to get a mortgage, then
you may be caught in the "forever loan program". Too
detailed to mention here, but be so glad and excited
that you are in this class. Building for cash is the ONLY
way to go. No deadlines, no lender breathing down
your neck. Just a fun time building your affordable
dream. Whoever said it takes a lot of cash to build a
home?) Take a look at my (ahem) "shed". Not done yet,
but it is looking better, and will be luxurious. At a
projected finish price of $19,000, it is something anyone
can easily afford.
*You will learn how to think.
*How to plan.
*How to be free.
Oh, by the way, during the class you may even learn
how to build a log home.
I'll be building this week. Come out and join me if you
are near-by. Not a lot of hands-on learning to be had
in this weeks construction, but I could use the company,
and you will be excited after we spend several days
talking about log homes, and your future.
Hope this post makes sense. I'm running on no sleep,
and pure cafeine. Good thing I'm at work, it time for my
afternoon nap.
-Rick
It would be great if my wife could be atending too but she just can't make it. She's pretty much on board, though--and your post just helped her get a better glimpse into the mindset of LHBA.Thanks for you post, rbuchanan_2.
the ONLY way I could get my spouse on board was to bring him to the class. He was a convert after the first 2 hours, when he realized that these guys really DID know what their talking about and that the mechanics/physics of it all made sense:)
I am also going to the December class. I have not as yet gotten my flight tickets, however I am willing to make arrangements to arrive in conjunction with an established person in order to share a car. Please contact me either here or at joadahlin6@hotmail.com
I look forward to meeting all of you!
Jo

Check-in at the Lodge is not until 4 p.m. Those staying at the lodge may want to ride in the same vehicle. I'm going to shoot another email to those running the class and see if hanging around the Lodge before check-in is acceptable or if they have any suggestions as to what we could do with almost 5 hours for some of us prior to check-in.
Lots of options--everyone may want to rent a 12-pack van, hang around the airport, and all ride together. It doesn't matter to me how or when I get there. I have already booked a vehicle, though, so let's discuss all of this and see if we can figure out who wants to do what. I'm pretty sure I can change the size of the vehicle I have booked so that shouldn't be an issue.
I attended class last year, and you've got to try the best burger joint ever, called Red Mill Burgers, in Seattle. Very casual and cheap prices. Look it up on Google. Mmmm, How I long for another one of those burgers. Definitely worth a stop if you have time to kill. Kind of hard to find, GPS?

don't want to be a spoil sport on your plans, but (when I took the class in '06) my flight was a couple hours late leaving Orlando, causing a missed connection in Chicago, getting me into Seattle at 1 o'clock in the morning (rather than 7pm-ish). Fortunately the car rental counter was open til 1am and I still got my car.
