Directions to our log home class

IMPORTANT NOTE: All classes start at 9am. If you are attending a class in Monroe, Washington, we meet at the parking lot at 9am.

Dear log home friends,

We are looking forward to getting together with you for the class.

If you have any questions about these directions to the site, then please e-mail info@loghomebuilders.org – or call us at - (360)794-4469.

First, please note that since Skip retired to the Philippines, we have caretakers living at the ranch and running things. The caretakers are not affiliated with the Log Home Builders Association, and will treat you as a stranger if you visit the ranch uninvited.

In other words, you will be considered a trespasser, and treated accordingly. So please do not show up at the ranch early to look around. Skip's ranch is never open to the public -- please respect the privacy of our caretakers.

To gain insight into how highly we value private property and privacy rights, view our keep out signs and our privacy policy.

The GPS coordinates of our parking area are:

47.795400, -121.975800
+47° 47' 43.44", -121° 58' 32.88"

There are at least two ways to find the parking area at our ranch – as follows:

FROM SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Go NORTH on Interstate #5, to Everett.

FROM EVERETT: Go EAST on Highway #2 to Monroe.

FROM MONROE: Go SOUTH on Lewis Street (which is State Route 203) towards Duvall. Proceed approximately 4 miles. On the right (WEST) side of Highway 203 will be one of the largest cow-sheds (a barn with very few walls) you have ever seen. There is a two-story office building near the highway in front of the barn. There is a sign on the office building that says HOLLANDIA FARMS. In the front yard of the barn complex is a small Dutch windmill (approximately 6’ tall), and also a small fountain is sometimes operating.

Our parking area is on the EAST side of State Route 203) DIRECTLY across the street from the front door of the small two-story office building. The parking area is behind a row of trees. The entrance to it is only a small “driveway-opening” in the trees, and it might even be difficult for you to see it at first.

In other words, the barn is on the WEST side of the highway, and the small entrance to our parking area is on the EAST side – on the other side of a row of trees.

Plastic surveyor’s tape (pink colored) will be tied to the trees on each side of the driveway. Sometimes there is a gate across the driveway to keep strangers out -- if you arrive first and the gate is blocking your way just open it and go on in.

The parking area is a small over-grown pasture, and it will remind you of John Steinbeck’s book, THE GRAPES OF WRATH – complete with a few junk cars, a few junk camp-trailers, an old shake-covered “pump-house,” etc.

FROM DUVALL, WASHINGTON: Go NORTH on State Route 203 (towards Monroe) for approximately five miles. On the left (WEST) side of Highway 203 will be one of the largest cow-sheds you have ever seen. It is so large that a Boeing 747 could fit inside of it. The sign on the front of the barn-shed’s office building says, HOLLANDIA FARMS. In the front yard of the complex is a small (6’ tall ?) Dutch windmill. Our parking area is on the RIGHT (EAST) side of the highway directly across the street from the barn’s small two-story office building.

Etc., etc., etc.

In other words, the barn is on the WEST side of Highway 203, and the parking area is on the EAST side of Highway 203.

THE PARKING AREA: Our parking area is behind a row of trees -- approximately 50’ from the highway. The entrance to the parking area is difficult to see because it is only a small opening in the row of trees (the opening is just wide enough for a vehicle to pass through).

The parking area is behind a farm gate, with scary, constitutional "keep out" signs. Members of the Association are invited to open the gate and enter on the day of the class. If the gate is closed when you get there, then just open it and leave it open for the others that will soon arrive. Then drive right in.

If the parking area reminds you of the movie DELIVERANCE -- then you will know that you are in the right place.

Please park the cars close together so there will be room for everyone. Also, please stay in your car until 9:00am when we will chain up Skip's dog Fang (a Pit-bull) and come to the parking area to greet you.

We will then walk up the hill into his home – where coffee and Skip’s famous (?) home-made cookies will be waiting.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU STAY IN YOUR CAR UNTIL 9:00 AM.

IF YOU ARRIVE LATE: Park next to the other cars and walk into the class-site. The site is at the top of the hill directly above the parking area. From your car, walk out of the parking area towards State Route 203.

Our ranch has ¼ mile of road frontage on the highway. There is a partially overgrown frontage road (it is like a sidewalk) that is parallel to the highway. Turn right on the frontage road and walk North, towards Monroe for approximately 900’. At the first driveway, turn sharp right (perhaps 120 degrees ?).

This is a gravel driveway that goes diagonally up a steep hill. At the crest of the hill, turn right into our front yard. If the steel gate (with a Keep Out sign) is closed, just open it and walk on in.

PLEASE CLOSE THE GATE AFTER ENTERING. You will see five or six log buildings, and we will probably be inside the largest of these. There will be a lot of shoes on the front porch. Ring the bell on the door, and someone will let you in.

Both the parking lot gate, and the gate at the top of the hill, are posted with our very scary keep out signs. The signs contain strong Constitutional wording that seems to be quite effective at keeping the government agents off your land (well, ane everyone else too). So if you see two large, intimidating keep out signs then you are likely in front of the right gate..

Please try to be on time, because we usually start each class with a “question-and-answer” session.

Extremely important questions are often asked during the first hour of the class – often regarding the most common mistakes people make when they build a log house.
