I found this site today while Googling. Has a comprehensive price list for logs based on length and diameter. Presorted, straight, bug free, rot free, minimum taper. The longer ones get pretty dang pricey, but you could buy enough for a 30x30 relatively cheap I guess. What do yall think?

I've checked that place out and kind of used it to try to get an idea of what it might cost. Not sure how it compares with the prices others have paid for their logs. Would be interested to know.

I'd ask them if you can get them unpeeled (from their adverts it sounds like you can) and what they charge for delivery to your area. I would venture to guess the number quoted on the site of $15,912 for the kit home does not include the cost of delivery/shipping of the same logs.

Even a free log is not a good deal if the delivery costs are astronomical.

You also should ask if you can have the logs picked up at their location (get a few of your own bids for de livery costs, to compare to theirs, then go with the lower).

You should determine if the actual log dimensions they give work for your build.

From one of the pictures, I'd ask when the logs were cut and how they were decked if stored for any length of time. Although it does say that they don't keep a large inventory--I assume that means the logs sold are probably harvested recently. Always good to check, though.

What you don't want are logs that have been sitting in piles contacting the the earth for any amount of time.

That supplier and others have been discussed in the members section. I wouldn't get too involved with looking for logs till you take the class.

Yeah, thanks guys. Im not planning on buying from them. I just thought it was cool that they listed their prices. It puts you on the planet, though maybe not in the ball park :D Also, I noticed the pile of snow covered logs laying in the dirt as well

I think I read on there that they charge $2 per mile for delivery.

Anyone know of a "like" company on East side of the Mississippi?

No clue. All I know is that Im through with trying to find logs for now. Im just getting frustrated. Im hoping to learn some "secrets" in the class that will make finding logs alot easier. I have called about 6 sawmills, and at least 6 loggers, and none of them seem to think I will be able to get what I am looking for. Hopefully, I am talking to the wrong people. Ill wait and see how the class goes before I make any more calls.

Yes there are "like" log suppliers east of the Mississippi. There is a loggers rolodex in the members section that covers some of the available sources and others have been discussed in the members section as well. Its highly recommended to take the class prior to doing any planning such as buying logs.

Oooooh rolodex :D Mmmmmmm. I cant wait to take the class and connect with some known sources. Getting (affordable?)logs is whats really stressing me out at this point. Building the house is going to be cake compared to finding the logs. 8)
