I know several builders have said go with a good heavy duty drill? But what makes it "good". I found this Hitachi (click link) with 9 amps that seems reasonable for $119. They have other more expensive drills with slightly lower amps that start around $190 and go up, but they are geared differently mainly for slower drilling such as for metal or masonry.

Heavy Duty Drills
I dont know about others but i used a hole hawg by milwakui(i know its spelled wrong) I got it off E bay for 100.00. I just had to change the plug from a 4 prong generator plug. But i know there pretty indistructable.Wich really put my mind at ease buying a used one.The place i bought it from actaul was a poun shop so they did give me a 30 day warranty..Its got low and high speed. You find yourself using slow speed to make sure your drilling strait.Anyway i would buy one of those used before id invest the same amount in some other brand that is new
