I am looking for a place for my parents to live when they retire. They want to live a log cabin in either Kentucky or Tennessee, preferably right next to the water. Does anyone know any companies that are selling log cabins either Kentucky or Tennessee? Does anyone know any towns that that might have log cabin with water front property. I’m not from the area, I’m actually in the ARMY and I’m just glad to be back in America.

Hi Rich, You've found your

Hi Rich,

You've found your way into a forum which promotes self-built log homes, and frowns upon manufactured kit "log" homes, so don't be too discouraged if you don't receive many responses. I don't know what your timeline is, or how involved you want to get, nor am I trying to talk you out of a manufactured home, but one thing to consider is the maintenance cost and time comparison. (something that may weigh on your retiring parents) A kit home will require occasional recaulking and resealing, perhaps as often as every other year in some cases, as well as adjustment of jack screws for log shinkage. On the other hand, the classes taught by the Log Home Builder's Association teach a method which is ultra-low maintenance. (no caulking, no sealing, no jack screws) Of course, I have no idea if you would have the time or energy to put into building your own home, but I thought it would be good to make you aware of these points.

Anyhow, welcome to LHBA and thank you for serving our country.
