Hi , I'm trying to figure out how to get My tractor down to Oklahoma in May??? It weights about 8,555 lbs and the cab is over nine foot tall...I have a truck with a 20' bed but I think with the bed (over 4') I'm too tall...I've been looking for a trailer that could handle it but they cost more than the tractor...anyone got any good ideas or places to find a heavy duty trailer cheap in the midwest???

maybe you can find a heavy duty trailer to rent instead of buy?
Some places may let you pick up at one place, & drop off at another.
Something like Nations rent or similar?

Thanks for all the Ideas...I had a trailer lined up to use but it fell threw at the last minute...I ended up buying a 20 ton gooseneck trailer and My son and I hauled my tractor down to Texas/Oklahoma with no problems...The trip was a blast...good times!!!

Yea...I thought about packing a cooler full of sandwiches and sending my teenage son south...but he dosn't seem to thrilled about the Idea...I got 3 quotes with movers but they all want around $850.00 to $1000.00 and I'd rather pay Double and have a trailer left over at the end...Vern,go ahead and send me the number and I'll give them a call...thanks guys...still trying to figure things out...Randy :)

Hi Randy -
There is a national tractor auction company here in Tulsa that hauls tractors all over the U.S. I'm sure he could do it for you. I could check on prices or email you his phone number.

He he he. Google search: Economical modes of transportation?
No, no. It was an article I read a week or so ago on AP's odd stories newswire. This thread reminded me of it, so I did a quick search to recover the article.

Rod,
What in the heck were you looking for when you found that article?

Well, there is always this option: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7006324771
On a more serious note, can't the wheels be removed, and block up the axle for transport?

Where in NE to where in OK? 13'6" is the legal max height in all states without an oversize permit. If you get a truckers atlas at a truck stop they have an index that shows all bridges that are under 13'6". It also shows the locations of all of the D.O.T. scales even on the back roads. I would never encourage you to do anything illegal but maybe creative?

13'6" is the legal height limit on roads. You would just need to be aware of bridge heights and low wires. On most major hiways almost everthing is over 13'6" and if it is not, it is clearly posted. If you are close to the limit, just let a little air out of th back tires to gain a little clearance. Be careful if you have calcium in the tires!

Randy,
How about having someone else haul it. There is another farmer about an 45 minutes from us that hauls equipment all the time. He hauls my 14k lb backhoe for me at $2 a loaded mile. Thats pretty good in my book.
I'm sure there are people that do this for farms in Nebraska or Oklahoma. Check with one of the local equipment auction houses.
