Welcome. I am building in Ashford ct. Which is about 15 min over the Mass line off I 84. After you take the class, and get ready to build I have a couble log sources I can put you in contact with. Belive it or not Mass has huge tracts of managed timber harvested anualy. The class will point you in the right direction as how to aquire the logs needed. There are a few builders in the area like myself that have more locolized info on who to contact. I was origanaly going to buy logs from a guy in mass, but I found a source the next town over from me who could get all my logs needed at once.
Do you have land yet? I noticed a few buildable lots in Worcester county that are approaching some sort of economic reality, one 2 acre lot for 40K.

As you have descovered logging companies aren't your best option. Your needs are too small for the big logging companies to be bothered with. The class will go into depth on going right to source rather than the middle men(which logging companies are).

A few words of caution, Once bitten by the log home bug(which I suspect has already taken place), there is no known cure. The bug will reach full effect after taking the class. "Loggernecking" will be one of the early symptoms, followed by an addiction to craigslist and the members forum. There is however sledgehammer and spud therapy. The beautiful thing once you have completed therapy, you will have a log home to live in.;}

Nordin, my neighbors in NY are from Massachusetts. When I was land shopping in '06, I looked at their property first because it had the old house on it. It was 23.5 acres of rolling pasture with a bit of woods in the back and had the old farmhouse from 1830 right on the road. I was too afraid of the age of the house and the work that it needed (even though it was suitable to move right into) so I passed on it and instead bought the acerage right next to it. Then my neighbors came from Mass and bought the house and land for about 140K. I bought my lot, 23.5 acres for 55K. When I met them last summer, they said the same thing about housing and land prices in their home state. It's funny how some people see NY as a real bargain! If it weren't for the taxes it would be absolutely perfect.
