A utility room, or 'mud room' as it is sometimes called, is a nice feature to have in any home -- not just a log home. 

This utility room has a separate entrance off the side deck.  If someone has been gardening all day, or fishing in the river, it provides a nice place to stop and change shoes and wash hands before heading into the main sections of the log home.  There's a spot for a washer and dryer right beside the utility sink (all pre-plumbed and ready to go), so the dirty clothes can go right into the wash.
