you can use diluted bleach for temporary mildew control
the class goes in depth into this though. There are good solutions for long term (fairly) non toxic treatments that work well... we borrowed the idea from wooden boat builders, so unless you are experiencing boiling rain, or have atmospheric pressures that are ~10 atmospheres, you will have no problems using this to treat your logs.
