Passive houses
I know that this post is really 'foreigner spam' but I was just looking up Passive Houses today and found out they are the standard of building in the EU now. The problem with attempting to build Passive Houses in the U.S. seems to be the lack of market available items like passive house windows and the heat exchangers. In fact, Germany is where the Passive House Institute is located. I was going to try to find out a little more about it because I don't remember seeing anything about passive houses on the forum. I would have thought that a B& P log home would offer the kind of insulation required of a passive house design with some modifications and increased insulation of the roof and base floor.
Anyone ever give any thought to this stuff??
Frances
Hey Frances, I think it's
Hey Frances, I think it's come up a few times before, but I don't recall to what detail it's been covered. My house will have a little passive solar going on but it's just a side benefit to some windows my wife wants. :D Also, look into 'Living Homes' by Thomas Elpel.
This is an example of one- http://www.loghomebuilders.org/image-galleries/student-log-homes/montana-log-home
