You can problay find it at pool store as Sodium cabornate. But i found for a buck at dollar store Sun Bleach Non chlorine that has Sodium carbonate and other stuff that work just as well like oxy clean stuff in it. i getting tired at the store prices have jumped on detergent i like spend my money else where. i have no idea if it works but what the hell. I go the laundry mat to was cloths and i just washed out there bottles to store my mix in after its settled some. Has anyone ever done this before just for fun ore to be frugal. Make shure to put in big pot becuse it did expand and swell up becuse i used sun stuff with oxy clean in and that expands. Now i got nice blue guck smells like ivory and cirus ahahah i expanded on the products except soap i want it strong. If anyone done this chime and tell me if its works. Thanks i was little down this morning till i read your reaction

I lived in London and i know what cost to live there to much.
So far i havent tested my mess yet but Hey people are always sucker for pretty bottle and trinkets.
I did find a sight for oils to add to give it what ever smell you like but allot them are very expensive.
People Who buy tide what just soap spend 80 dollars on it a year. for what cost them less then few cents to make.
I not out to impress anyone i live in a 12 by 20 building i put together from Lowes on my own land.
I come from 2 sides of my family that did make over million bucks in the early days with out a college education from hard work.
My relatives are thrifty people and knew how take a buck put some where else like stocks ore bonds make work for you.
I was bored when i made the stuff and i thought was good idea for what cost to make and how much you get out of it.
I gone do my own mix next time add cup white vinagor to the mix and a cup apple dawn liquid soap that stuff works for scent and cuts out dirt and grease. white Vinagor used to clean and soften fabric also.
I post if it works i gone use it soon see how things turn out and smell.
Cheep and free my middle name hahahah

I had no trouble finding

I had no trouble finding washing soda in my local grocery store, in the aisle where detergents are. (branded as Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda) I use it in my electrolyzer.

Homemade Soap

I started making my own laundry soap about a year ago. It seems to work just fine. Word of warning, each batch seems to come out a little different consistency, depending on what kind of bar soap you use with it and how much. My daughter and I even took a class on making homemade soap, and not the "melt-and-pour" variety, this is the real deal. It was great fun, and we've made several batches since then. Our last batch, made primarily to use for making laundry soap and even dish soap (not as effective, still working on some variations). It turned out smelling like orange scones, a delightful surprise (we were going for sort of an orange spice).

Have fun experimenting, and don't worry if it doesn't suds up much at all. It's really no supposed to. Even the stuff I've made into dish soap barely suds, but it does seem to get the dishes clean, if you can get past the American Way of having a sink full of foam to do dishes. Now if I could just keep it from separating...well, the real way to make liquid soap is a much more complicated process than bar soap. Maybe some day when I'm living on my mountain and have more time...

Wash soda in stores all over the place

Chad,

We have wash soda her in PA in many stores. I may be losing my mind but if asked I would testified that I saw a post where you could put baking soda, (sodium bicarbonate) in the oven and bake it so you end up with sodium carbonate, (wash soda). It may cost you a tid bit in electricity but if you can’t find it you can make it.

Yea, I posted those details a few days ago, but apparently the moderator deleted my post for some reason. It doesn't make any sense to remove poignant, on-subject information. I sure would like to hear an explanation for that decision. Ellsworth?

There were other posts made after yours that caused this thread to need some cleaning up.  They were off topic, a little mean spirited, and just didn't need to be said.

Your post contained a reference to the controversial topic so it got pruned.

This is moderation.  A few people will complain that some posts are left up, or a topic allowed to be discussed.  Other people will complain if they are deleted, or people are asked to not discuss them.

There's just no 'winning,' because the actions of a moderator will always leave some folks feeling a bit peeved or slighted.  Please be aware that it's never personal, and we're just trying to do what we think is best for the community... and trying to ensure we have an area that promotes peaceful coexistence.

About moderation...

I'm the guy who always says "hey what did I miss?". But then again I have participated in forums where things get so "interesting" that you begin to wonder if anybody on the forum has anything in common with anybody on the forum. It is nice to be involved in a group like this where a fellow can leave his muddy boots at the door and walk over to the computer and see what's going on without committing 2 hours to the process. No question in my mind that this site is about spreading this particular gospel and getting a bunch of like-thinkers to hold hands with each other and get a house or two built.

You can cut my threads anytime you want and I'm sorry for the times when I feed the fire. Moderation in moderation is a good thing and probably a tough job to do. Thank you, Ellsworth and Steve.

Ellsworth, we very much appreciate all you do to make this form available to us all. it must take a lot of your time. I hope you never feel like its too much of a burden.

I would really hate for this forum to go away.

thanks Ellsworth!

And that is why we have ToS rule # 26:  "Discussions about moderator or administrator actions are welcome in email or local private messages, but should not be discussed in public forums. This is out of respect for the members and moderators or policy involved."  This is a standard rule on most forums.

When an issue does pop up, and a thread needs moderation, 99% of the members will never see it, and not be affected.  There's just no need to 'perpetuate the drama.'

We really don't delete or lock anything without a pretty dang good reason ;)  We generally have a laissez-faire approach to moderation, so something has to really be causing a problem for admin to step in.

If someone is directly affected by a moderators action, they are always welcome to email us and we'll try to explain what happened and why.

Actually I don't think we've had to lock or delete anything in almost a year... and then this week we end up with a couple of threads that needed attention.  It's like those work place signs "We've had 352 days since our last accident." ;)  We had a good roll, something was bound to happen.

Just because we had to deal with two threads in a week does not mean we're switching to some heavy handed moderation style.  It just means that due to issues addressed last year in this thread,  posts and threads that are causing problems will now generally be addressed sooner as opposed to later.

Thanks for your kind words panderson03, and no the forum won't be going anywhere.  Please have no concern about that.

Of COURSE he should have mentioned you AND FIRST, WAY before lowly old me. you've been a staunch supporter of non-political/non controversial/just-keep-it-about logs for longer than I've been on the forums.

and love to hear your updates. I'm watching an old (May) episode of Ax Men and they're cutting down just the tree I want for our RP. not as amazing as yours for sure, but SWEET!

work safe. keep writing about your progress. you and the others are an inspiration to the rest of us!!

Odd... 352 days is the exact number of days I was away from the forums.

Crazy coincidences. :)

Actually there was a public thread about geothermal heating that was locked 3 weeks ago that I swear I had nothing to do with!

Rod your idea worked with baking baking soda to break down

Well my state ore my area i cant find washing soda So Rod said bake it to break down to washing soda.
first i looked all over the web sight and it said nuke and bake it so i did both.
I nuked it for 5 min on high and then baked it in my toaster over becuse that what i got for 30 min on 450.

I made new bath of laundry detergent add a few my own things and seems to turned out correct this time.
It makes a gel.
My new batch i added the washing soda and put a cup dawn and add cup white vingor for extrax cleaning softnes cloth also.
So for less then 69 cents i made years supply of washing detergent for me and have extrax supplies make more future.
it smell lime from dawn good scent ahhaha
i have redo the first batch over again it failed.
becuse lack of washing soda
If you want be cheep and clean your cloth for next nothing try it.
Dawn cost little more but works on so many things clean and i bought clean my couch with my rug cleaner and carpet after i water down some,
