I have found a supplier for logs and I have a hauler, but I need someone to cut them.
Does ANYONE know of loggers up that way?
I am in southern Iowa and have tried to get this done, but I'm seeking the LHBA folks help now.
Thanks.
James
Hi James,
Sorry, I can't help you with getting your logs cut in Wyoming. But, I do come from a family of loggers in Iowa (my Dad was, and all 4 of my brothers are). I live in East Central Iowa, not far from Cedar Rapids. I was wondering if you took the LHBA class and would really be interested in hearing feedback on it from you. I really want to take the class and build my own log home. I am looking forward to hearing from a fellow Iowan on this subject.
Hope to hear from you,
Thanks,
Cindy
Shirley Mt.located in the Shirley Basin about 60 miles northwest of Medicine Bow, WY.
It looks about 120 miles north of him.
Here's the info. ask if he's interested to let me know at pltn1042@Juno.com
They are Lodge Pole Pine.
These are estimates, and should be close, according to the forester.

Cindbriz,
I DID take the class in 1999 and was truly impressed. Skip and I have kept in contact over the years .
I was about set to buy a wholesale kit home, when I ran across the website www.loghomebuilders.org
I was also in the process of building my own 4400 sq ft bank owned stick house, but the "dream" has never faded.
I have been UNABLE to find trees of the house building type around SW Iowa (I'm in Glenwood), so have had to look outward.
For the 150 trees, what I need plus 20% (for trial and error, spoken about in the class).
I would recommend the class for ANYONE, not just thinking about building a log home. There are alot of principles taught there and I think that having loggers in the family, you'd see a HUGE benefit from the class.
Maybe we can work together on getting some logs cut, hauled and built together.
Great to hear back from you! What kind of trees are you looking for? Also, how tall (or long) would they need to be? I have seen on the website where others have gotten more than one log out of really tall trees, therefore, not needing as many trees.
I would be open to the idea of working together. I am hoping to take the class asap, but, financially right now, it looks like it will have to be after the first of the year in 2008. I have been wanting to take the class for over a year now, but it hasn't worked out. I am trying to find someone who would be interested in going with me. I was hoping one of my grown kids could be able to arrange their work schedules so we could go together. I think it would be priceless information for them when they are just getting started. I wish I had heard about this class 20 or 30 years ago! But, am very grateful to have "stumbled " across it when I did.
Good hearing from you, talk to you soon.
