I've been meaning to post these links for a couple of weeks, but things have been a little hectic around here. I didn't have time to go back and find Kola's post about lighting issues, but here is one possibility: olive oil lamps (or other vegetable oils).

Check out this post from Judy of the Woods. And another one about making lamps out of beer bottles and an old sock.

I haven't tried these yet, but I plan to. If you have time, check out Judy of the Woods' web site. This was the first I had seen it, but it looks like she has some interesting stuff. There are even detailed plans for making you own low flow hydraulic ram pump...I'm anxious to see what else is there!

If any of you try these before I do, let me know how they turn out.

Louanne

From the tests I've done

From the tests I've done with veggie oil, the burning wick must be kept very close to the fuel source. Therefore, the "beer bottle" method will begin to perform poorly as the oil burns down. But Judy's method has merit, especially when someone suggested a floating wick holder. (I think an inverted beer cap with a short piece of brass tubing brazed through the middle would be ideal)

Lights and LHBAer's meet up

ty Louanne! and Rod.

Steve W and his wife came to visit me. It was great to meet them both. Good people with good hearts.

They gifted me with a citronella latern and a big jug of citronella. I tried it out and love it. It leaves barely a smell and shines enough light to do things like cook and read.

They also gave me a lil solar panel that can charge up Ca-Ni batteries and 9 volt batteries. I will have to get some batteries and try er out.

We had fun, hiked around my "secret spot" and then walked my property and had some mystery soup. they met my animals. My shy lil filly horse (WindDance) really took a liking to Steves wife.

I was really surprised that they brought such thoughtful gifts.

I was hoping they had Rod or Chad hidden in the trunk of their car but nope.. :)
