Product recommendation: comfy knee pads :)

Hey, Ellsworth--

YES!!! Both Jeff and the other guy who helped us build our house have used the gel insert knee pads, and they ARE good. Our friend Joe has arthritic knees, but he helped us lay three floors' worth of t and g wearing his. Don't think he ever could have without them!!!!!!

Jeff actually prefers the fit and balance of a pair of knee pads he got which aren't gel, because they are sort of squared off on the face and help keep you steady in tricky situations (looked like maybe the Lee Valley ones are shaped a bit for stability?) and because they had a velcro and neoprene wrap which was more comfortable. But he used the gel ones for a while when we lost the others, and said that they were indeed quite cushy and comfortable.

I happen to hvae the Duluth catalog here in front of me, and they have a gel knee pad (product # 56254) for $34.99. Didn't look closely at the differences in product features, but since Duluth is usually pricey, maybe that means if you look around you can find a similar product to the Lee Valley one for a little less $$??? I think that Jeff bought at least one pair of his knee pads just at one of the home improvement stores. Might be worth keeping your eyes open.

Have a great one, Ellsworth! :D

Orthopedic Knee Pads for a whopping $66.50.

For that kind of money you could get some really nice Protecs or Smith Scabs, they are for Skateboarding and have the heavy plastic protective cap. The Smith's are real thick and comfortable they are the ones I ride in, but I used protecs for years and they work just fine.

I bought mine at the local Skateshop, but you could probably find them online for cheap.

Knee Pads on the Cheap!

When I was a Plumber we were always kneeling... Mostly on cold concrete. We would occasionally kneel on a drywall screw. Owie! What we used to do was (if you wore 'em) was to split the top seam on the knees of our Carhartt pants. They are built w/ a double knee for wear. Anyway, we'd split the top and slide neoprene into the "pocket" now formed at the knee.
Worked like a champ. The neoprene we used was split pipe covering so it would lay flat.

This thread is backwards :)

Read the second post first, and the first post second lol.

This topic came up in another thread and Ambarian had some great feedback on gel kneepads, so I thought I'd split it off as its own topic/product recommendation. Of course I muddled that up :) and now the thread is backwards.

Speaking of comfort, these caught my eye in the latest Lee Valley catalog

Orthopedic Knee Pads for a whopping $66.50. I'm used to spending WAY less on knee pads (way, waaay less!), but I'm tempted to give these a try... maybe they make it feel like you're kneeling on a nice soft pillow

Has anybody tried these, or a similar product?
