I was awoken yesterday morning at 5:18 by my New Mexico relations. They said that we were going to have a Tsunami. This is before the rest of our state was awakened by the civil defense sirens that went off at 6 am...
I rolled over and went back to sleep. I had bought a number of 5 gallon buckets and filled them various staples, soy milk, other stuff. The only thing I was missing was a bath tub full of water.
As it turned out we had a two foot Tsunami at low tide which doesn't even bring it up to high tide.
But I am thankful for my preparations. I bought the book "Dare to Prepare!". There is a lot of duplication but the book is well worth the effort. I also am a member of this forum

that has a bunch of stuff that is useful in this effort.
If you have a walk out basement your root cellar is 90% finished. Add some shelves and bins and start collecting your provisions.
Good luck

Yea Dave I was thinking of you too of course, I called my Keauu family with my concern and I was laughed at. They also have their readiness program and "after all the house is 60' above sea level"
Dare to Prepare
Hey Rocklock, I just received my copy last week. You are right, there is a lot of duplication but the information throughout the book makes it well worth having. It’s a big book so if I ever have to bug out I’ll have to make up my mind what to take with me, the book or 5 pounds of flour. Hummmmmm.
Dare to Prepare
This book was recommended on this site a couple of years ago and I did go out and buy it, read it and use it to this day. We had some harsh weather this winter and using some of the ideas in this book really took the sting out of the Christmas Day blizzard that kicked out butts.
Got my copy: D.t.P
Bought my copy a few years back. Excellent resource. D.t.P. is an "in-your-face, here's the list of what to, why to, how to, go and do it now" reference source. I recommend a small Bill's Bag (no longer available in camo) and stuff in a copy of D.t.P., Carla Emery's book, and Sunshine to Dollars. With these in hand you may not even need a copy of the SAS survival guide. Might even consider throwing in a copy of Nuclear war Survival skills, and No such thing as Doomsday.
S.t.D. is the anti D.t.P. it's more of a "what was done, and how it was done, now read between the lines, and go develope your own solutions" type of resource.

While I'm recommending resources...
Get: Joy of Gardening by Dick Raymond, Garden Way Publishing. It really is the only gardening book you need. Thick book, and no fluff. No theory, or passed-down stories, just facts based on experience. Also buy (oh boy, senior moment setting in...) The 12 months Harvest by Mariel Dewey, Ortho Press. The book is out of print so you may need to borrow a copy, and head on down to the copy center. This book is thin (90 pages?) but it is so full of valuable tips that I still have never read all of the book. Also, copy all online articles by Jackie Clay. I'm sure there are more excellent resources out there but these three top my list for growing, storing, or raising food.
Also, go to the library and check out, "The Way We Ate". Personal diaries of how people prepared, raised, and stored food (and starved to death!) 150 years ago. It's an excellent guide, and an eye opener.

While looking for Dare to
While looking for Dare to Prepare I came across her other books. Have any of you read Prudent Places?

Haven't read that book, but I understand it is full of good information for making critical decisions for a safe and productive location.
