The stairs lead directly up to the loft, where you can look down into the unique open space. You can design a home with giant open spaces -- without worrying about where interior walls need to go. A properly constructed butt and pass log home does not need load-bearing interior walls, so from a design perspective it is one of the most flexible building styles.
