we took the class a few weeks ago, just bought stock plans for the 35x35. have LOTS of learning to do.
next steps are to finalize our floor plan and build our model.
are planning on a practice structure early next year. Then will do the dirt work and cement work in 2010 and plan to finish the weather tight shell in 2011!.
planning to pay as we go so after we're weathered in, we can just do what we have time and $$ for.
more later.

-shed dormers
-moving some interior walls
Spoke with my Uncle who has some acres of Jack Pine. He will let us thin his forrest for free! hooray! will head over there next weekend to see how big his trees are:) can't wait!
My neighbor built with jack
My neighbor built with jack pine. Hard to peal but looks real nice with all the knots. Another friend used a power washer to peal the logs. He said that was real easy and looked great. I will be building by Ely, MN. Have the land cleared, driveway in, building site cleared and have my hands on big White pines to build with. Getting the logs is the easy part I do land clearing for a living.
land clearing for a living
that's great! any helpful hints you can give us? When do you plan on building?
First class this weekend
First class this weekend then footings this summer or fall. Start walls in the spring of 2010. If my house sells in Forest Lake, MN maybe sooner. As far as helpful hints go, I have to go do a job in Fargo, ND maybe I can stop by and see what you have for a project.
Have fun at the class!
Have fun at the class! Sounds like your timeline is about a year ahead of ours. We're (HOPEFULLY) getting our logs from my Uncle's place an hour or so to the east of our place so I'm afraid you won't be able to give us much meaningful feedback on clearing just by seeing our set up. we have deciduous trees...uncle has jack pine. we're on a hill....uncle's land is pretty flat.
I hope your place sells soon. good luck!!
