Thermafoil Kitchen Cabinets

Hi Every log home I've visited has had stained wood kitchen cabinets, but I prefer a "break from the wood everywhere else in the home". Has anyone installed thermafoil cabinets in the last 5 years? I've heard that they used to be poor but have improved, yet I cannot find someone who has lived with them. I realize I can paint wood, but that feels wierd to me to paint over lovely wood, and, the thermafoil appears to be easier to clean. I appreciate any thoughts you may have.

When I googled Thermafoil...

I found this: http://www.repair-home.com/QA/answers-Thermafoil_kitchen_cabinet_doors

Most of the posters in this thread bought theirs more than a year ago, but reading this is enough to make me stay away...

This stuff looks pretty neato. I bet it's expensive though, hehe... http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/professionalkitchens_1975_259826

ThermaFoil

I'm thinkig it might be easier, or a least cheaper to build conventional cabinets (Taunton
Press, Building Kitchen Cabinets with Paul Lavine - DVD) and facing them with metalized
plastic laminate. The samples I've seen look like brushed stainless steel.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

I agree with Rick. You can always cover, paint, stain, etc. wood cabinets.
