I'm in north Kentucky, along the OH river. Looking for logs (species and origin) to build with. Pines are scarce in this part of the country. Has anyone out there built a butt and pass home in the Ohio River Valley. Thanks in advance for any info.
I've located all kinds of southern yellow pine within an hour of Louisville for....the whopping price of...free! It seems that nobody wants to mess with it because it checks to bad and is considered only worthy of pulp for paper mills. I plan to build my first house out of it.
Will that stuff snaps like a twix candy bar.
I had storm out here it blew right over.
use a strong log for your lifting polls and RSPLS
I say treat with bug borate becuse carpter ant will tear it up with 1 week of being on the ground,
I was gone use it but it twist about after 20 feet and got allot sap in it nasty stuff. check for holes like where a branch rotted out in the log for carpeter ants logging in it as a home.
They love the pine tar in it. If you got straight sections it look nice when it clean but it will soak water up like a cork also to warn you. I got offer for 40 = 40 foot one for free
i gone end up use oak i just got figure a easy way get the dam bark off its a real pain to try peal.
Take some pictures when you get the logs.
