My 5 acres are in central Florida, 50 miles north of Tampa Bay. As you may know, there is no good wood this far south for log building so I will have to truck something in. Any advice you could give regarding sources and prices?
Thanks,
Gabriel

Logs in southeast/Georgia

Hi Y'all, I'm from Georgia and just started looking my self. I can find southern yellow pine that meets size and taper requierments but, I'm not sure about the load
bearing qualities. Maybe someone else has some input on the use of this type of wood! Scott

SYP is just fine, in fact in

SYP is just fine, in fact in some applications it rivals doug fir. Just use the info from the work book. There is a lot more in the members area. What part of GA are you in? I'm about 60 miles south of Atlanta.

We're pretty much limited to Yellow Pine or Cypress down here. The trick is LARGE overhangs to keep 'em dry and a dose of borate would not hurt.

Sawmills and pallet

Sawmills and pallet companies buy loads of logs for very cheap prices. The problem is, these loggers don't seek jobs from the public very often. Heck, they don't even put a number in the phone book. They just find timber and sell it to the yards. If you can find these loggers and pay them more to get the size and type of logs you need....then you can get a great price. The trick is to find them...and you know where they go. To the sawmills and the pallet factories. So do some Recon....get the number off the side of the beat-up log truck and make the calls.
