Wood cook stove installation?

Hi all!
I have been looking to buy a wood cookstove. I haven't purchased one yet and would like to know the clearances etc for this kind of stove before i buy one so I know how large of one I can buy. Our kitchen is small and the wall it will sit against is wood. I realize I will need to put something non-combustible an the wall and floor. I am hoping if this is done properly I can have a small ,say 6in., clearance and not 18in. Who do I contact to find this out. My insurance company said it was fine as long as I get a sticker saying it was installed properly. I assume that means I will have to call the code guy, is that right? Help, Sarah

Your best bet is to visit the local building inspector. That way you'll know exactly what they require and there will be no misunderstanding. You don't want to get done with the project and find out you were working to the wrong specs.

Checking the specs on all

Checking the specs on all the wood cook stoves on Lehman's, they all have clearances of 16 to 27 inches. I'm sure with a thick, non-combustible wall, (NOT just a non-combustible material over combustible structure) you could be closer.

It supose be 24 inches away from the walls
